Puppy Steps Services Terms and Conditions and General Information
In booking Puppy Steps classes or other services, you agree to these Terms and Conditions:

  1. All the techniques used will be reward-based.  Puppy Steps does not use training methods which physically manipulate puppies and dogs into position.  Physical manipulation (such as pushing a puppy’s hindquarters down to get the puppy to sit, can be extremely damaging to the puppy’s growing joints)
  2. Partners and children are welcome in class, and we will endeavor to include everyone who wishes to be involved.  All children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult and supervised. However, only one person should handle the puppy/dog during each exercise to prevent the puppy from becoming confused.
  3. All puppies and dogs will be on lead unless directed otherwise.  Preferred equipment is a non-tightening, Y-fronted harness and a slightly longer training lead (such as the Halti Training Lead, which is around 6ft long).  Choke chains and slip leads are not permitted.
  4. Please bring sufficient small, soft, high-value treats for training. Treats recommended by Puppy Steps as suitable and high-value may be purchased.
  5. Toys for use as a training reward should preferably be around 24-36 inches long and made of soft material such as fleece or toweling for the safety of handler and dog.
  6. Off-lead time and Puppy Play may be included as part of the puppy sessions, but under trainer supervision and only when puppies are well-matched.
  7. If you are unable to attend a session, please let me know via email, text or Facebook message with as much notice as possible.
  8. Please use the time before and after class to reward your puppy for focusing on you, rather than the other puppies or dogs.  On-lead greetings may be conducted under trainer supervision.
  9. The field outside is not for dog play. Please pick up and take home any dog waste.
  10. The car park is sometimes used by other members of the community. Please park considerately.  There is no charge for parking. 
  11. Please be considerate of other users of the Community Hall and Playing Field.
  12. Puppy Steps is not liable for any injury sustained during training classes.
 
Dog Walking and Other Services
  1. I do not provide social dog-walks in large groups as the norm.  If you require this service, I can recommend other providers.
  2. I will usually require a meeting with you prior to agreeing to provide dog walking and other services to discuss your needs and meet your dog/other animals.
  3. The first 3 dog-walks will be solo walks on lead to get to know each other.
  4. Every effort is made for your dog’s safety and the safety of others. Dog walking off-lead is at owner’s risk and dogs will only be off-lead with the express permission of the owner.
  5. Please provide suitable harness/collar for use.  I will use a “Puppy Steps” tagged collar for any dogs allow off-lead.
  6. I will not play with sticks with your dog. I appreciate being supplied with suitable toys if your dog enjoys toy play.
  7. House keys held in the care of Puppy Steps are tagged with dog’s name only and are kept in a locked box when not in use.
  8. House keys will be returned to the owner within 48 hours when services cease.
  9. The owner is responsible for vet fees for any injury sustained while walking.
 
Payment
  1. Course fees are payable at the start of the course, or at the start of each subsequent block.
  2. Payments for any Home Visits and One to One coaching must be made at the time of booking (preferred) or directly after the session.
  3. Payments can be made by cash, cheque payable to “Puppy Steps”, or BACS SC 09-01-28 Account # 93300662
  4. Regular dog walking will be invoiced on a 4 weekly basis
  5. Ad Hoc service will be invoiced within 7 days of the end of services.
  6. Invoices must be paid within 7 days.

Cancelation/Non-attendance Policy
Puppy Foundations & Socialisation, and Teens Foundations class.
  1. Due to the time sensitive and open enrolment nature of these classes, there is a no cancelation policy for these sessions. Please advise any weeks that you cannot attend within a block by not booking that week online.
  2. Once a place is booked on these courses, the course fee is generally non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances.
  3. If deemed more suitable for the puppy, the balance of remaining session may be put towards a series of individual sessions.
  4. If you are unable to attend a session of these classes, you will receive a full summary of the session and any supporting handouts via email shortly after the class.
  5. Extreme weather conditions, trainer absence, or unexpected circumstances may result in a session being postponed. That week will not count as a session in your block.
 
Partnership Classes
  1. You may book in 6 week blocks and continue as long as you wish. Please advise Puppy Steps of any weeks you are unable to attend in that block at the time of booking.
  2. You may take a break in training and return at a later date, as long as there is space in the class.
  3. Please give notice of at least 24 hours if you are unable to attend a session. The session will not count as part of your block.
  4. If you do not give notice of at least 24 hours, it will count as a session in your block.
  5. Extreme weather conditions, trainer absence, or unexpected circumstances may result in a session being postponed. That week will not count as a session in your block.
 
Behaviour Consultations, Puppy Home Visits, and One to One appointments (Coaching and Follow up).
  1. Notice of at least 24 hours is required for cancellation of Behaviour Consultations, Puppy Home Visits, and One to One appointments (Coaching and Follow up).
  2. If notice of less than 24 hours is given, the appointment will be chargeable.
 
Dog Walking and Other Services
  1. Regular dog walking canceled at short notice (less than 24 hours) will be chargeable
  2. Ad Hoc Services (such as cat visits, lunchtime pop-ins) booked and canceled at short notice (less than 24 hours) will be chargeable.
  3. As much notice as possible for cancellation is appreciated.
  4. Services provided on weekends or bank holidays are chargeable at + 20%.
  5. Services provided on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day , Boxing Day, New Year's Day, and Easter Sunday are charged at double rate (+100%).
