I am thrilled to be working with Vicki Main of Love Your Paws Dog Training based near Helston to present Love Your Paws puppy and foundation classes in the Falmouth/Penryn area. On booking this course, you agree that your details will be passed to Love Your Paws to be added to their online training course and private Facebook Group, the Training Hub, if you have chosen the online package as an add-on.
This is puppy training that is designed to give you and your puppy the very best start. These are not your typical 6-week puppy classes… we want you to truly understand your dog and their needs so that you can enjoy every aspect of your lives together.
Our fun, yet thoughtful, puppy classes use reward-based methods to teach your puppy the foundations that they'll need to enjoy life with you to the full. We will look at different methods to achieve your goals, discuss the pros and cons, and find the techniques that suit you and your puppy.
If you choose the optional online add-on package, your first class is available to you online as soon as you sign up so there’s no need to wait around, you can start your training straight away. The core skills that will help your puppy be successful in their training journey are covered, as well as information that will support you to be the best puppy parent that you can be. In your 6 weekly classes, we will practice the skills that you and your puppy have learned in the safety and comfort of your home around other puppies and people, building solid foundations is the key to ALL of your training.
We'll work on the core skills of lead walking, Come when Called, sit and settle but more importantly we'll cover:
- confidence building
- building a strong bond with you
- understanding body language
- handling skills
- socialisation (and it is and what it isn't!)
Our classes are 45 - 60 minutes and always have time built in to celebrate our successes and for questions to get advice on any challenges you may be facing as your puppy grows and develops; toilet training, mental enrichment, exercise, sleeping, biting chewing. Raising a puppy can be hard, really hard, so this is a chance to ask questions and share experiences and tips with your fellow puppy 'parents'.
If you want to take your puppy training beyond the basics then these are the classes for you!
You can book 3 weeks, 6 weeks, or 9 weeks, depending on your circumstances.

What do you need to bring?
Your puppy! Wearing a flat collar, and harness if you use one
A training lead – no retractable or slip leads, please.
Treats! As we use reward-based training we ‘pay’ our dogs for working for us. Please bring really tasty treats – chicken, cheese, ham… they only need to be really small – think pea sized!
A mat or blanket for your dog to settle on when not working

Directions approaching Mawnan Smith village on Penwarne Road - just past the Spar Shop, the Red Lion Pub will be directly in front of you. Take the road on the left of the pub. Proceed for 0.3 miles. There will be a sign on your left saying Carwinion Playing Fields.
Directions approaching Mawnan Smith village on Maenporth Road, passing Maenporth Beach on your left. From Maenporth Beach, follow this road for 1.5 miles. There will be a sign on your right saying Carwinion Playing Fields.
There is ample parking. Please try to toilet your puppy before class on the strip of grass alongside the hall - please pick up after your puppy to keep the venue clean. Unfortunately, the field is not for dog play.
Please note:
- These are primarily outdoor classes, so please come dressed for mildly inclement weather. However, inside space is available, so if it's really bad weather, we may be able to move inside.
- For fully vaccinated puppies up to 5 months old.
- All classes are subject to Covid regulations in place at the time of the class; if we enter a lockdown all classes will continue online.

We are very pleased to recommend Lindsay as a highly professional and competent trainer who has shown us how to give Tyke the life he needs to live as a dog, but at the same time, within our domestic environment. Tyke is growing into a well behaved, gentle and friendly dog who is loved by all; as Lindsay usefully pointed out at our first meeting, Tyke doesn’t speak English, but we guess he too would recommend Lindsay very highly if he could: his wagging tail says it all.
Cannot recommend highly enough. We learn just as much as our Labrador Bess does it seems. We attended the puppy class and have now moved on to obedience classes. Cannot believe how much of a difference it makes each week.
Puppy Steps has been a perfect learning journey for our labradoodle Agnes. Lindsay has been; clear, understanding and patient with both Agnes and us. We always feel like no question is a silly question and always look forward to going each week, as it always has such a friendly, calm atmosphere. Highly recommend for both puppies and junior dogs.
Really enjoyed Puppy Steps puppy classes with our mini schnauzer puppy. Lindsay is very friendly and knowledgable, and the class was small and inclusive. She did a really good job of including my primary-aged children in the sessions and they learnt a lot too!
